Take your bathroom from blah to bold with a little drama. The key to a dramatic look is in the balance of daring and subtle. If you want an edgy or sexy feel to your bath, add in a dark wall or a unique floor or a shower tiled in a bold graphic design, but pair it with simpler colors, textures or patterns.

Designer and stylist Emily Henderson, an expert at styling spaces to create an eclectic, lived-in look and an expert at upcycling and creative repurposing of vintage finds, recently remodeled this bathroom in her mountain home. She was after something unique and she certainly succeeded. Her skill and eye for design created a perfect balance of bold and delicate in this guest bathroom.

For this project, Emily chose slabs of our ever dramatic Calacatta Oro marble for her counter and her floor! To create her bold and truly unique floor, she had a slab of Calacatta Oro fabricated into 12″x12″ tiles so that the veins match and the small grout lines give more of a slab effect.

"I wanted to create a bolder, darker, moodier and edgier bathroom while still fitting in the modern mountain/Scandi vibe. This is a guest bath thus a great place to create an experience and excitement. Due to its vibe, we might call this internally 'the sexy bathroom.' It's undeniably very exciting. A black and white color palette will certainly create drama," Emily Henderson said.

On the flip side, try sprucing up your space with a light and airy design. Bright, clean bathrooms feel refreshing and relaxing. If your bathroom has windows, open up the blinds and let some natural light shine. Sheer blinds can be used to let the sun in while still providing privacy. If your bathroom doesn’t have any windows, ensure that the light bulbs are bright to provide optimal light. A bathroom is no place for dirt and grime. Here are tips for keeping your tiles clean!

Simple details like extra toiletries, fluffy towels, a bath tray, and a soft rug make all the difference. You may want to also include a vase with fresh flowers or potted plants. Scented candles are always a great touch for bath time.
